Canada Turkey trade talks on reducing US reliance

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to Turkey focused on strengthening trade relations with middle-power countries and reducing Canada's reliance on the United States, especially amid the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. It is expected that an agreement will be signed with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to enhance cooperation in defense and energy sectors, in an effort to attract new investments and improve economic partnerships. Although the volume of trade between the two countries accounts for less than 0.3% of Canada's total trade, which is approximately 4.34 billion Canadian dollars, bilateral trade has increased by 50% over the past five years. Canada aims to double its exports to non-U.S. countries within the next decade.
