Egypt denies cutting support

The Egyptian government denied reducing the value of support provided to citizens, emphasizing that the subsidized cash and commodity support system aims to ensure assistance reaches eligible families by allocating a financial amount they can use to purchase basic goods according to their preferences. The system supports a large number of citizens, with about 68 million Egyptians benefiting from the bread and commodity subsidy programs, which are increasing in funding annually to reach 178 billion Egyptian pounds by 2024, with a continuous rise in the support amount. The government imposes criteria to exclude high-income families or those with valuable assets, amid rising living costs and increasing prices of goods, while continuing efforts to ensure the delivery of entitled support to the most needy families.
