Turkish Parliament Speaker dismisses Libya deal objections

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş announced that external objections to the Libyan House of Representatives' approval of the maritime memorandum of understanding between Turkey and Libya are without merit, emphasizing that the step was taken by two sovereign states with mutual consent. He stated that the Libyan House of Representatives unanimously approved the memorandum, which aims to define maritime zones in the Mediterranean Sea between the two countries. This move strengthens relations, affirms their rights and interests, and safeguards security and stability in the region. He pointed out that Turkey will continue its policy of supporting and defending its rights, and working to develop regional cooperation in accordance with international law. Libya had approved the memorandum during a House of Representatives session on Tuesday, after it was signed in 2019, with the purpose of delimiting maritime borders in the Mediterranean Sea.
