FIFA sanctions Egypt players after match incident

The Disciplinary Committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) has announced severe sanctions against Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egypt national team, and Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, in addition to Mustafa Zico, a team player, due to incidents during the Egypt-Argentina match in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan have been suspended for three matches each, while Zico has been suspended for five matches. This will prevent them from participating in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers until next June. The Egyptian Football Association is currently reviewing the reasons behind the sanctions and preparing to appeal them after submitting a request to the Disciplinary Committee for legal details. This decision comes in light of Hossam Hassan's statements, which the report described as unsporting, as well as protests against the refereeing decisions during the match, which sparked widespread controversy following Egypt’s 3-2 loss and elimination from the tournament.
