U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Uzbekistan in his first stop on a tour that includes Central and South Asia, aimed at strengthening trade relations with the region and reducing Russian and Chinese influence there. Rubio met with his Uzbek counterpart and emphasized the importance of relations with the area, especially in the energy and rare minerals sectors. His goal is to diversify energy sources and secure resources. The visit comes as the United States seeks to enhance its presence in a resource-rich region that is experiencing a decline in Russian influence amid growing Chinese influence. It represents part of broader diplomatic efforts involving Central Asia, a region that Washington recognizes as strategic in countering Russian and Chinese influence.
