Iran art and music as peaceful protest

Many prominent Iranian musicians, such as Bejan Mortazavi and Mohsen Namjoo, have returned to their homeland after years of exile, a move that reflects signs of political and cultural rapprochement with their country. The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance reported that the government has prepared lists of over 100 Iranian figures living abroad to facilitate their return, even though returning does not necessarily require performing in Iran. Authorities continue to defend musicians' right to return, despite legal objections to their entry into the country based on international conventions. Recent changes also demonstrate that, despite the obstacles imposed by the Iranian Revolution over the years, music has become a tool of resistance and a means of expression for protesting youth. Relatives of those killed in recent protests have used music to express grief and defiance, reflecting a cultural and political shift within the country.
