Elections During War Will Netanyahu Get Mandate
The article discusses the Israeli elections scheduled for October 27, which follow the October 7 attack on Gaza. The elections are seen as a referendum on Benjamin Netanyahu's rule and the identity of a far-right Israel. Netanyahu, who returned to power in December 2022 and faces corruption charges, is seeking a fresh mandate from voters to strengthen his control after years marked by wars and settlement expansions. Meanwhile, political divisions are deepening, and the war’s impact on Israel's international image is growing. Candidates and opponents alike focus on Netanyahu's responsibility for failing to prevent the attack, while the Israeli society shows signs of a growing rightward shift, with continued government support for hardline policies and extremist rhetoric.
