US Considers Inviting Europe to Buy Russian Gas
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is studying a proposal inviting Europe to resume purchasing Russian gas in order to increase supply volumes and reduce energy costs ahead of winter, by restarting pipelines that previously transported gas through Ukraine. The aim of the proposal is to ease pressure on gas prices in European markets, especially as demand for heating rises. However, the US administration's move has faced obstacles related to infrastructure and Europe's shift toward diversifying energy sources. The success of the proposal depends on the volume of gas that can be delivered and the speed of resuming flows, amid European reservations about re-dependence on Russian gas.
