Syrians and Lebanese detain Bayda attacker

Lebanese security forces killed former Syrian regime officer Ali Keyali, known as "Meraj Oral," in a mysterious operation in the Mar Mikhaël area. He was taken to Syria after being captured inside his home. The operation was carried out by four Syrians and a Lebanese individual, involving phone tracking around Keyali's residence. He had remained in hiding since entering Lebanon secretly with his wife in 2025. Syrian authorities accuse Keyali of participating in massacres on the Syrian coastal region in 2013, while Lebanon has denied knowing about his presence or the kidnapping operation, stressing that investigations are still ongoing. This incident occurs amid a broader context of former Syrian regime officers and activists fleeing to Lebanon, with some believed to be protected by parties loyal to Bashar al-Assad's regime.
