Black Sea vessel attacks increase

The Black Sea has experienced an escalation in incidents targeting commercial ships, with vessels of various flags and types subjected to attacks by drone boats near Russian, Bulgarian, and Romanian coastlines. These attacks have resulted in some ships sinking and fires aboard tankers, although there has yet to be official confirmation of these events. Among the incidents, fires broke out on a chemical tanker off the Romanian port of Sulina, and shipping vessels such as "Lady Jasmine" and "Chelsea 3" were targeted. Additionally, the ship "H.S. Dgentii" sank following an explosion and drone attack involving a rigged boat and a nearby explosive-laden dinghy. These developments raise concerns about the increasing danger to mariners' safety and regional trade movements. The situation has led to the destruction of vessels and security threats, with NATO and the European Commission issuing heightened warnings. They consider the Black Sea now to have become another front in the escalation of Russia's war against Ukraine.
