UN Continues Support as UNIFIL Ends
The article reveals that the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces (UNIFIL) are nearing the end of their mission in southern Lebanon in December 2026, while the UN affirms its support for stability in the country. Lebanese officials emphasize the importance of the international forces remaining to maintain security, especially as Israel continues to occupy a border area and Lebanon refuses to withdraw. Meanwhile, countries such as France and Italy express their desire to form an alternative force, and concerns are mounting over a security vacuum that could lead to an escalation in the region, particularly with ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, and with Israel occupying up to 10 kilometers of Lebanese territory along the border.
