US Investigates Saudi Engineer Over Recording Device at OpenAI

The U.S. authorities have arrested a Saudi engineer named Abdulrahman Al-Fawzan (35 years old) on charges of hiding a recording device inside the premises of OpenAI with the aim of intercepting and recording confidential communications related to the company's technologies and development. The device was discovered in the executive meeting room, concealed inside a roll of toilet paper, and was used to record the contents of meetings concerning research, strategic plans, and technical capabilities, despite the fact that he did not have permission to access that room. Investigations suggest that Al-Fawzan was deliberately monitoring the meetings, and he faces potential penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. This case comes as part of the United States' efforts to combat industrial and technological espionage.
