Syrian Foreign Minister reports destruction of 42 chemical bombs in August

Syria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Asaad Shihabi, announced that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was able in August to destroy 42 chemical aerial bombs in Syria. This marked the first destruction of Syrian chemical munitions approved by the organization since 2014. He explained that Syria has submitted over 100,000 documents regarding its chemical program, corrected its previous declarations concerning hidden facilities and munitions, and regained all its rights within the organization as of last July. He also mentioned ongoing discussions with the OPCW on final steps to fully close the case, while facing challenges related to landmines and damaged sites. Additionally, he called for Syria's return to the Separation of Forces Agreement and emphasized the need to strengthen the United Nations' role in supervising a ceasefire.
