Berlin resignations: Birbel Bas steps down

Purple Pace announced her resignation from the presidency of the Social Democratic Party and the German Ministry of Labor, citing the burden of grief over her stepdaughter's death and political pressures, which had increased from within the ruling coalition. The party confirmed that Alexander Schwaitser, the leader of the party's parliamentary group in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, is a candidate to succeed her and assume the Ministry of Labor, having previously served as the state's governor from 2024 to 2026. These developments come amid tensions and disagreements within the government over social and economic issues.
