Autumn Rains Affect Damaged Homes in Southern Beirut

The article discusses the effects of the recent war and heavy rains on homes and shops in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Cracks and broken glass have increased water and air leaks, making it more difficult to repair damaged buildings, which depend on each family’s financial capacity. Some residents had to repair their homes at their own expense after the damage caused by the war, while others are unable to afford the necessary repairs due to the difficult economic conditions imposed by the war and their living obligations. Reports confirm that returning to homes is no longer the same as before the war, and reconstruction remains tied to each family's ability to bear the costs—especially given the overall deterioration of the buildings and the security and financial challenges. Shop owners also face difficulties in making repairs due to high costs and declining business activity, which exacerbates the suffering of residents and the local economy in the area.
