October 7 Attack Amplifies Israeli Right-Wing Shift
After Hamas's attack on October 7, 2023, the right-wing trend among young Israeli voters is increasing, as many of them plan to vote for the far-right party, especially amid rising security concerns. Approximately 550,000 Israeli youths aged 18 to 22 are voting for the first time in the elections, with 74% of them supporting right-wing or center-right ideologies according to a recent poll. These young people express a desire for strong security deterrence, advocate for the displacement of Gaza's residents, and support laws imposing maximum punishment on terrorists. These attitudes reflect a more hardline nationalist environment prevalent under Benjamin Netanyahu’s rule and differ from the positions of youth in Western countries, which are more leaning toward the left and calling for peace.
