Syria UN envoy: Resolution Upholds Sovereignty

The United Nations has confirmed that the UN Security Council publicly expressed, for the first time after secret consultations, the need to respect the 1974 ceasefire agreement between Syria and Israel. This stance reflects the consensus among the five permanent members of the Security Council on Syria’s sovereignty and is a response to Israeli incursions and arrests, which the United Nations considers war crimes. Syria has adopted diplomatic strategies and isolated Israel while avoiding military confrontation to strengthen its international position. It accuses Israel of violating international law and Security Council resolutions. This approach helps Syria maintain its sovereignty, avoid military escalation, and enhances its bargaining power, amid hopes for regional stability that serves global interests.
