Cockroach Party Leaders and Protesters Arrested in Delhi

Indian police have arrested the leader of the Youth "Cockroach Party" and thousands of protesters heading to Jantar Mantar Square in New Delhi to demand the resignation of the Indian Election Commission chairman. The protests came in response to reports about voter list review operations aimed at deleting names and excluding approximately 130 million voters, which opposition parties accuse the government of orchestrating in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian government. Authorities also detained party leaders at Delhi Airport to prevent them from joining the demonstrations, and intensified security measures with restrictions on the internet and public services. The United Nations called for the release of those detained, considering them arbitrary detainees, while the opposition accused the government of using security forces to suppress the protests and hide its fears of using the voter list review process to influence elections.
