The incident in which members of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents opened fire on a migrant in the Bronx, New York, and injured him during an attempted arrest in front of a child in a car, sparked widespread protests and angry demonstrations across the city. City officials, including the mayor, representatives, and governors, condemned the excessive use of force, calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident and demanding the termination of the agency’s operations in New York. Public and political calls for accountability are growing due to the risks that agency actions pose to the lives of migrants and children, as reports of violence and shootings increase since President Trump’s return to power and the intensification of deportation efforts.
