EU Advances Troop Presence in Lebanon

The European Union is implementing a new non-military mission to support the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces, aiming to strengthen the state's sovereignty and enable it to extend its authority over all Lebanese territory. The mission will include providing training and advisory services and achieving internal security, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. It will not replace the existing UNIFIL forces in the south. The EU will allocate 505 million euros in financial support for the years 2026 and 2027, including logistical and training assistance, with a focus on disarming Hezbollah and securing the borders. The goal of the mission is to enhance internal stability and Lebanese state control, while maintaining the ongoing presence of United Nations forces after UNIFIL's mandate concludes.
