UN Warns of Violence in French Protests
The United Nations expressed concern over the acts of violence and clashes that took place during the student protests in France, where thousands of schools were shut down and the army had to intervene. The protests, which saw participation from over 71,500 people, including more than 20,000 in Paris, continue. The organization called for the preservation of the peaceful nature of the protests and respect for the right to assemble, amid the deployment of riot police, injuries, and arrests. The French government announced plans to manage the crisis by calling in 3,000 substitute teachers, as protesters intensified demonstrations in various neighborhoods and cities.
