Russia denies second infection in lab death

The Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) has announced that reports suggesting the infection of a second person following the death of a laboratory worker infected with the plague in Siberia are inaccurate. They confirmed that no pathogenic microorganisms have been detected after investigations, despite ongoing mystery surrounding the cause of death. The worker, Daria Shipilova, aged 28, passed away on October 2nd. It is believed she was suffering from pneumonia, but the source of the infection has not yet been determined. The World Health Organization is calling for more information from Russian authorities to understand the circumstances of the death, amid international concerns about the potential spread of the disease—especially following reports indicating that she may have been infected due to a broken test tube in the laboratory.
