China's western trade corridor to handle million containers in 2026

China continues to strengthen its transportation capabilities through the "New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor" in the western regions. By early October 2026, the volume of container shipments exceeded 1 million standard containers, supporting the stability of foreign trade and economic development in the southwestern part of the country. Goods flows have been steadily growing; the number of trains from Chongqing to Qingdao Port increased by 31.7%, industrial product exports rose by 95%, and the transportation of industrial raw materials nearly tripled compared to last year, reflecting the increasing demand for logistical services both domestically and internationally. Construction and development are ongoing, with two new railway routes nearing completion, and the density of freight lines has increased to 54, enhancing connections with borders, including Vietnam, to ensure highly efficient linkages within China and with other regions.
