Gaza economy in decline
The economy of the Gaza Strip is experiencing a historic deterioration due to the effects of the recent war in October 2023, with all economic indicators sharply declining. The per capita income has fallen by 82%, reaching $212 annually in 2025. Agricultural and industrial production have decreased by up to 94% and 99%, respectively, with 92% of economic facilities damaged. Food prices have surged by 274%, and unemployment rates have approached 90%, with hundreds of thousands of jobs lost. The reconstruction process requires more than $71.5 billion, with estimates suggesting it will take between 40 and 80 years to fully restore infrastructure, amid ongoing movement restrictions and blockade measures. Gaza’s economy faces a state of paralysis, with markets and labor collapsing, the agricultural sector destroyed, and healthcare services deteriorating—deepening the humanitarian and developmental crisis.
