October 7th attack deepened Israeli divisions
Israel is celebrating the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attacks, which marked a temporary moment of national unity. During this period, internal divisions that had been tearing through Israeli society, particularly over the judicial reform plans and security policies, temporarily diminished. However, researchers emphasize that these divisions have continued to resurface since November 2023, focusing on priorities in responding to the attacks—between releasing Hamas detainees in Gaza and continuing the war against Hamas. As the conflict expanded between 2024 and 2025, protests against the government grew louder, and issues such as exempting Haredi Jews from military service and the gap between Jewish and Arab communities regarding the cessation of hostilities came to the forefront. The current divisions are seen as an internal threat, and they dominate the agenda of the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for October 27. The questions of accountability for failures and the importance of investigating the attack events are central, alongside intensifying debates about the country's strategies and future.
