Libyan Parliament elects Abdel Nabi as president

The Libyan House of Representatives in Benghazi elected Deputy Salehien Abdel Nabi as the new President of Parliament for the upcoming term, succeeding Counselor Aguila Saleh, who has held the presidency since 2014. The election took place amid disagreements and divisions within the council, with calls to revisit and revise the internal regulations to choose a new leader. Abdel Nabi belongs to the Awlad Saqr tribe and has held a seat representing the Tobruk constituency since 2014. He also participates in external committees and international parliamentary bodies. Additionally, on Tuesday evening, elections were held for the First Deputy Speaker from among several candidates, with 110 deputies in attendance. This step aims to unify the council, enhance reforms, and support the process of reconciliation and political agreements.
