EuroLeague teams reject NBA cooperation
The "EuroLeague" basketball clubs unanimously rejected the cooperation offer made by the National Basketball Association (NBA) to launch a new league in Europe, considering the current format unacceptable. However, the door for negotiations has not been entirely closed. The NBA aims to establish a league in Europe by fall 2027, featuring 16 teams—12 of which would be permanent clubs based in major cities such as Paris, London, Madrid, Istanbul, and Milan—projected to generate substantial profits, potentially reaching hundreds of millions of dollars annually, with an initial investment of $3 billion. This initiative is among the largest of its kind, intending to create a permanent competition that could last for decades, with significant financial distributions allocated to participating clubs. Nevertheless, the "EuroLeague" management has expressed concern that the existence of another league could weaken the sport's standards in the region, and they have preferred to postpone selecting new clubs until they can study the proposals more thoroughly.
