The Electoral Commission in Brazil announced that candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, will compete against the current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the runoff round of the presidential election scheduled for October 25. After counting approximately 97% of the votes, Bolsonaro received 47.45%, surpassing expectations, while Lula received 44.66%. The elections occurred amid intense polarization between the left and the right, with growing concerns over rising living costs, corruption, and crime. Lula is also facing pressure from the American administration, which has imposed tariffs, while Bolsonaro enjoys significant popular support, promising to tighten crime-fighting measures and make government changes. The second round will take place in October, and the results will determine the future of democratic sovereignty in the country.
