Nikkei dips after six-week peak
The Japanese Nikkei Index declined by 0.79%, reaching 68,413.03 points, as selling pressures persisted across most market sectors amid fears of interest rate hikes due to rising inflation and accelerated core inflation in Tokyo during September. Geopolitical tensions also increased, notably the war between the United States and Iran and its impact on energy markets, after China suspended external oil exports except to Hong Kong and Macau, raising concerns about fuel supplies and prices. A total of 170 stocks declined, while 53 stocks rose, with SoftBank Group being one of the biggest losers, down by 5.27%.
