Foster Meets Erdoğan in Ankara
The visit of North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst to Turkey focused on strengthening economic and political relations between the Turkish state, which is home to around three million Turks, and Germany in general. Wüst emphasized that the time is right to enhance cooperation with Turkey in areas such as armament. He also pointed out that it's been 65 years since the signing of the Turkish employment agreements in Germany, highlighting that Turkish workers have significantly contributed to Germany's economic recovery after the war. Additionally, Wüst met with Turkish President Erdoğan for 50 minutes, during which they discussed several issues, including human rights in Turkey, with an attempt to adopt a positive approach in their relations. The visit comes at a time when Wüst is being considered as a potential candidate to succeed Chancellor Friedrich Merz, although he has denied this.
