Egypt's recent escalation against Ethiopia
The article centered around Egypt's escalation of its stance regarding the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized that Egypt rejects any infringement on its water rights and affirms its commitment to peaceful solutions, reassuring that this will not threaten its existence. The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources pointed out that these actions are in line with international law and are aimed at safeguarding water security, while continuing diplomatic efforts and working to increase water resources through reuse and desalination. These statements followed provocative remarks from Ethiopia, which Egyptians considered provocative, including claims by officials about Ethiopia’s sovereignty over the Nile River and the construction of new dams. Egypt reiterated its commitment to its water rights and affirmed its refusal to abandon the diplomatic approach, warning of a potential drought in the Nile Basin. It also underscored that the Nile water is a matter of life, while continuing to manage water resources after completing the current filling procedures of the dam.
