The Agriculture Union in Tunisia has revealed an unprecedented abundance of "krofet" (white shrimp) available in the markets. This surge is the result of climate changes and rising sea temperatures, which have led to the settlement and proliferation of white shrimp from the Atlantic Ocean, particularly in the Gulf of Gabes. Coinciding with the fishing season that began on October 15 and will continue until November 30, more than 350 fishing vessels are currently operating, unloading dozens of tons daily. Prices remain stable, ranging between 70 and 90 Tunisian dinars per box, each weighing between 13 and 15 kilograms. The union confirmed that the decline in local krofet prices is not related to export activity, as the majority is directed toward local consumption. Small quantities are exported to Spain and Italy. The vessels comply with product quality standards and health regulations. Additionally, the union encouraged consumers to take advantage of the abundance by purchasing and freezing shrimp, providing tips to preserve its quality for more than three months.
