Japan's Role in Tunisia's 70th Diplomatic Anniversary

In 2026, Tunisia and Japan celebrated the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, which began after Tunisia's independence in 1956. These relations have been characterized by cooperation in various fields such as economics, energy, water, and culture, with a focus on strengthening investments and exchanges between the two peoples. Among the most notable projects was the construction of a seawater desalination plant in Sfax, financed through an easy loan from Japan to support water security in the region. Additionally, Japanese companies participated in projects addressing climate change and energy transformation. Japan also hopes to sign a bilateral investment agreement to encourage further mutual investments, with an emphasis on enhancing economic and cultural collaboration, including environmental initiatives, cultural activities, and sports exchanges, all aimed at developing and strengthening their relationship in the future.
