Tunisie Telegraph: Green protein in Bouzolfa's home poses environmental concerns

The article discusses potential environmental risks related to the black soldier fly farming project in Bizerte, which is used to convert organic waste into protein and fats, aiming to reduce waste and support the circular economy. Scientific studies indicate that the farming process may pose risks such as greenhouse gas emissions, ammonia, and unabsorbed residues. It also emphasizes the importance of managing environmental conditions—particularly ventilation and odor control—to prevent insect escapes or pollutant leaks. The article stresses the need for a comprehensive assessment of the entire production cycle, including the source of materials, waste management, and potential environmental impacts, along with the importance of sharing scientific monitoring results to ensure proper control of the project's effects. The focus is not on prejudging the project but on highlighting the necessity of an effective system for control and scientific evaluation.
