IMF Chief Cites Triple Risks

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, urged both wealthy and poor countries to swiftly complete their efforts to reduce debt and lessen inequality amid increasing economic pressures caused by the artificial intelligence boom, rising borrowing levels, and conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. She emphasized that political challenges require urgent and effective measures, and that policy tools are available to assist in these efforts. She also warned of the risks associated with the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence data center capacities, which support economic growth but also contribute to inflation; such expansion demands proper regulation and significant investment. She cautioned that delaying action could lead to widespread financial shocks.
