Manouba presents early warning support results

An international mission from the World Bank and a French consulting firm presented findings on the support provided for the multi-hazard early warning system in Tunisia, which aims to protect residents and infrastructure from natural disasters. Mornaguia and other model areas in Greater Tunis, Jendouba, and Kébili were chosen to pilot the system, given their diverse geographical characteristics and the hydrometeorological risks they face. The system's objectives include analyzing hazards, identifying vulnerabilities, developing emergency response plans, and enhancing coordination among institutions through monitoring and forecasting technologies. The goal is to improve Tunisia’s disaster management capabilities more effectively. Local authorities and agencies showed considerable interest in implementing a strategic plan that includes risk assessment, raising public awareness, developing communication channels, with a focus on evaluating hydrometeorological risks and updating the legal framework to ensure the system’s effectiveness in the short, medium, and long term.
