Video: Break-in and Looting at Galeries Lafayette in Paris

Paris witnessed widespread protests yesterday, Saturday, October 17, against the rising cost of living and the deteriorating economic and social conditions. The protests led to riots and looting in several locations, most notably the Galeries Lafayette shopping center. Videos showed masked individuals attempting to break into the mall by smashing its metal door and stealing luxury goods, including clothing and jewelry. Vandalism and violence also erupted in other streets, with clashes between protesters and police officers, who responded with tear gas and water cannons. Approximately 1,200 people were detained, and about 150 police officers were injured. France is currently experiencing its strongest wave of anger and social tension in years.
