Japan faces 9.9 magnitude quake

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for a 9.9 magnitude earthquake near the Kuril Islands, but it quickly retracted it and apologized for the mistake after it was revealed that the earthquake actually occurred off the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia, with a magnitude of 6.9 at a depth of 160 kilometers. This led to the activation of false seismic alerts, which caused temporary disruptions in public transportation. Although the event did not provoke widespread panic, the agency expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, in a country still haunted by the memory of the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
