Russia: Europe resorted to firewood amid Nord Stream loss

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that Europe was forced to resort to using firewood after abandoning the Nord Stream pipeline following its destruction. This move led to a retreat from adopting cheap, low-emission Russian gas. The Russian official pointed out that the closure of nuclear power plants and the cutoff of Russian natural gas supplies have heightened Europe's challenges. Countries such as Germany and the Netherlands have turned to coal-fired power plants and extended the lifespan of existing coal stations, while Romania postponed shutting down its plants until 2029. Explosions occurred in 2022 targeting the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea. Western sources suggest these acts were deliberate sabotage, while the governments of Germany, Sweden, and Denmark have refused to provide Moscow with investigation details, suspecting Kiev's involvement in the incident.
