Is the Minister of Forces on a retreat or encountering a landmine
The abstention by Lebanon’s Minister of Energy and Water, Joe El Sadie, from attending Cabinet sessions is a symbolic gesture reflecting a state of political frustration by the Lebanese Forces towards the governance. It is not a resignation or a permanent withdrawal but rather a political protest expressing the party’s discontent with the management of the electricity sector and the government’s failure to resolve the crisis. The move aims to force the government to confront the issue of reform, with a call to privatize the electricity sector as a final solution after the government’s options have been exhausted. The crisis is among the main reasons necessitating bold policy decisions and decisive action on this file. This stance comes amid an intractable crisis and a refusal to accept traditional solutions, with an expectation that the impact of the protest will remain limited in time given Lebanon’s rapid pace of events and developments.
