Ethiopia plans Tigray autonomy

Abraham Belay, the former head of the provisional administration of Tigray, stated that the Ethiopian authorities are working on forming a new temporary administration in the Tigray region and holding regional elections in the coming months. This approach aims to empower the local population to manage the region themselves in order to restore peace and stability, with direct participation from residents starting at the smallest administrative units. This step comes as part of accelerating the end of the transitional phase, while Ethiopian forces continue their operations against illegal armed groups in the area, especially after regaining control of Tigray’s capital, Mekelle, from the Tigray People's Liberation Front rebels.
