Karl Bushby’s 28-Year Walk Home

Karl Bushby has completed a 28-year, 36,000-mile journey on foot, crossing continents including the Americas, Asia, and Europe to return to his hometown of Hull, England. His expedition, which began in 1998, was guided by strict self-imposed rules of traveling solely on foot without transport and only resuming where he paused if interrupted. Despite numerous challenges, including crossing dangerous terrains, facing threats, and almost drowning, Bushby accomplished several records, including being the first to walk continuously across the world through 29 countries. Now back in the UK, he feels both terrified and optimistic about ending his lifelong journey, which was driven by a desire to challenge himself, confront mortality, and explore the world’s kindness.
