Macron Announces Limits on French Weekend Protests
President Emmanuel Macron announced that protests in French towns and cities on Saturday will be limited to authorized union demonstrations only, following violent riots and property destruction during last weekend’s protests. Complete bans have been imposed in cities such as Lyon, Nice, Toulon, Rouen, and Grenoble, with authorities deploying increased police forces. The government aims to prevent illegitimate protests, which they associate with far-left groups seeking to destabilize the Republic, while offering alternative routes for union-led marches.
