Columbus Day: Open and closed sites

Columbus Day, celebrated on the second Monday in October, is marked by a parade in Manhattan honoring Italian American heritage. Despite the holiday, many services such as federal, state, municipal offices, post offices, and most banks are closed, while the stock market remains open. Most Long Island schools and retailers are closed or open, respectively, with parks and historic sites open for the holiday.
