Orangutans Rehabilitated After Forest Fires

Eight critically endangered orangutans were released back into a forest reserve in Borneo after being rescued from wildfires that threatened their habitats. The fires, intensified by the strong El Niño, destroyed large portions of their habitat and limited their access to food, prompting their rescue from areas surrounded by plantations. The release aims to give the apes a better chance of survival in an environment with adequate food and water, as wildfires continue to impact their population and habitat.
