Quebec separatists expected to win election

The Parti Québécois won the recent Quebec provincial election, returning to power with a promise to hold another referendum on independence from Canada, though support for independence remains around 30%. The victory ends eight years of rule by the Coalition Avenir Québec and raises the prospect of renewed political focus on Quebec’s future within Canada. The outcome occurs shortly before an independence-related referendum in Alberta, highlighting ongoing debates over national unity in Canada.
