Residents of Gaza are preparing for a harsh winter as a low-pressure system and heavy rain approach. Many are living in dilapidated tents that offer no protection from the cold or flooding. UNRWA reports that 94 percent of the Strip’s population—1.98 million people—need shelter and non-food assistance, while 85 percent face critical or catastrophic shelter needs. Around 200,000 worn-out tents, 7,800 tents in hazardous locations, and more than 1,000 sites hosting displaced people are at risk from winter conditions. Also at risk are an estimated 2,000 buildings in danger of collapse, after 11 children died last winter.
