President Donald Trump is following the results of Wednesday’s midterm congressional elections from the White House’s East Room, alongside allies and members of his administration, while war rooms have been set up to track the results. The gathering recalls election night in 2022, when Trump-backed candidates lost key races despite his prediction at the time of a major Republican victory. The White House is bracing for results that could prove disappointing, although Trump believes his campaigning and spending on the races have strengthened Republicans’ chances. In private conversations, he has acknowledged the possibility of a “worst-case scenario.”
