A leader of a student movement in France announced that some high schools would again be shut from Monday, in protest at what he called inadequate government proposals to improve educational conditions. The decision came after hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated across the country in the third wave of weekend protests. The action is set to intensify on Tuesday, with schools and universities due to close again on Thursday. Protesters plan to join a demonstration called by workers and unions on November 5, demanding broader access to higher education and smaller class sizes.
