Israel frees 9 over settler attacks
Nine out of ten suspects involved in attacks carried out by extremist settlers against an American journalist and European diplomats in the West Bank have been released. The assaults occurred during the olive harvest season and included physical assaults, stone-throwing, and shooting at Palestinians. The suspects were detained at the request of the United States, France, Belgium, and Poland, but the court ordered their release and placed them under house arrest while investigations into the incidents continue. These arrests are rare in the context of legal action against settler attacks, as such assaults often go unpunished.
